Make Fashion Photography

A fashion photo shoot requires several elements coming together to create a successful image.

Fashion photography is one genre of photography that relies on other professionals all coming together to create the final shoot. The model, makeup artist, hair stylist, wardrobe artist and set designer must work closely together to ensure a successful final image. As the photographer, you need to have a clear idea of the image you want to create and a clear understanding of what the client wants in the final image.

Instructions

1. Meet the client or designer in charge of the artistic direction of the shoot. They will able to give you an idea of the theme and specific artistic requirements needed for the shoot.

2. Design and set up your studio to match the overall artistic direction of the shoot. You may also decide to find a remote location that will be better-suited for the shoot. If the shoot is beach wear, it is much easier to go to a beach than to truck sand into your studio.

3. Confirm with the models, designer and makeup artist the day and time and location of the shoot.

4. Arrive at your studio or location 30 minutes prior to the start of the shoot and set up lights, props, backdrops and any other items you will be using during the shoot. Greet the models and rest of the individuals as they arrive.

5. Set up the lights and any reflectors you will be using during your shoot. Attach a mid-range telephoto lens, like an 85 mm, to your camera, this lens is the traditional choice for studio photographers as it will not distort an individual's features the way a wide angle lens will.

6. Position the model into the scene once they are finished with makeup, hair and wardrobe. Review with the model the type and number of shots you are looking to take with each wardrobe selection. Begin shooting once the model is ready to begin. Run through all the shots you wanted, then proceed to the next wardrobe item and repeat the process.
