Acting Schools For Novices

Beginner acting is offered for all age groups, with focuses on television, film or stage.


Acting schools for beginners are located throughout the United States, and assist aspiring actors of all ages through teaching skills necessary to work on stage or screen. Learning the art of character portrayal can take weeks or years to accomplish, and these schools offer programs which range from eight-week studies to multiple series to capture the essence of becoming an actor. Often, these schools are operated by professional actors with years of experience in the field. Building a resume, preparing headshots and prepping for auditions are often included in beginner actor studies.


Elizabeth Mestnik Acting Studio


Script reading skills are taught at Elizabeth Mestnik Acting Studio.


Residence to many actors, this school is located in the heart of Los Angeles, California and offers programs for actors with less than one year of training. Several programs of varying time commitments are offered. The Meisner Technique teaches improvisational exercises, increasing emotional range and work instinctively to act the role. This cost for this program is $290 per month and a one-year commitment is advised. The Basic Technique Series is offered in three, 12-week sessions and covers acting basics such as creating a character, reading scripts and building professional work ethic. The Actor's Workshop of South Florida


Evening classes at the Actor's Workshop do not interfere with school or regular work day schedules.


The Actor's Workshop has two locations in Palm Beach and Broward County, Florida and beginner introductory classes are offered. The introductory eight-week program, offered in Deerfield Beach, is $150 and takes place in the evenings. Vocal exercises, improvisation and scene work are topics studied in class. Private tutoring is also available through the Actor's Workshop, as are services to help with prepping for auditions and headshot guidance. The Jason Bennett Actor's Workshop focuses on improvisation-teaching methods.


Located in New York City, this acting school offers beginner classes throughout the year, as well as private lessons and intensive study. Creative process is studied as well as the business side of the business, and classes are often tailored to meet the individual needs of each student. Several approaches to acting are studied, using models such as Adler, Chekhov and the Stanislavski system to hone skills and apply them towards careers in film, theater and television. Next Actor Studio helps beginner child actors enter the field of commercial work.


This Houston, Texas acting school offers beginner classes for kids to adults, with a focus on proven acting methods such as Stanislavski. Weekly or weekend classes are offered, and training is acquired in the subjects of voice acting, commercial acting, and improvisation as well as basics concerning the camera, directing and editing.
